I often find myself having conversations with people about which fishing pole’s I think are better for certain types of fishing and so forth. The market is flooded with all types of different rods and reels but the one that always sticks in my mind is the Ugly Stik by Shakespeare.
I have fished with an Ugly Stik for some thirty plus years, I find them to be one of the most durable and reliable poles for the price. If your just starting out you can pick up a combo for right around thirty bucks at just about any major outdoor retailer or discount mart.
I also found them to be one of the most exciting poles to catch panfish, when I started taking my kids out fishing for the first time and they landed a bluegill or crappie they were totally engrossed with the way the rod bent and felt in their little hands. The same feeling I had when my father put one in my hands all them years ago. I have for ugly sticks in my arsenal of poles and the oldest one is over 25 years old and I fish with it every chance I get. I also just got the new Ugly Stik GX2 and cant wait for the weather to break to get out and give it try.
Most people will argue that you have to spent a hundred plus to get a good pole. I always tell them that Ill go out on the same water and take my ugly stik and go heads up with them against their fancy expensive rods and reels and catch the same amount or more fish than them. Now I’m not saying the other poles out there are of poor quality but the truth of the matter is that if you have a reliable pole and you combine that with experience and knowledge a seasoned fisherman will never have a hard time catching fish.
