Rocket Bobber

With the weather finally turning warmer I decided to go out to Liberty lake and give these new bobber’s I got at the bass pro shop a try. I heard alot of buzz about them in several of the forums i frequent.

I must admit they deserve all the buzz they are getting. I was amazed at how far these bobbers launch with little ease. Its also easy as hell to land a fish on them as well. If your into pan fishing like me give them a try. They are more expensive than your regular bobber but in my opinion well worth it.

Bacon Wrapped Snapper Bites

Ingredients

1-2 large snapping turtles cleaned and quartered
1-2 large Sweet Onions
Salt/Pepper
2-3 packs bacon
3-4 cloves garlic
1 box toothpicks
3-4 celery stalks
Your favorite spice or meat seasoning

Lay the snapper quarters in a large soup pot and cover with water. Roughly chop the onion and celery and add that to the mix. Crush the 3-4 cloves of garlic and add them and then salt and pepper to your liking. Now boil the entire mix for 3-4 hours or until the meat is real tender. Dump the meat onto a large cookie sheet and let cool so that you can work with it. Go through the meat and tear the chunks off in quarter sized pieces so that you can roll them in the bacon later. Take your favorite spice or seasoning and mix it into the deboned meat and then proceed to wrap the quarter sized chunks of meat with half a strip of bacon and secure it with a toothpick.

Now fire up the grill and throw the bites on only long enough to crisp up the bacon and enjoy.

Trip to Bass Pro Shop

Took my son and nephew up to check out the Big Bass Pro Shop in Rossford, OH today. This was the first time either of them had been there.

Luckily we showed up right before they feed the fish. They have a huge tank with monster bass, crappie, gar, bowfin and catfish. They throw bluegill in and the kids watch in amazement as they get eaten.

They also allow the kids to feed the trout in a small creek that runs throw the store. One of the cooler things was all the Stuffed animals and scenery they have at the store.

Overall it was a great day. I manage to escape with only  spending $200 bucks on chest waders, poles and polarized sun glasses and some great memories that I will cherish with my son.

KY HB 403 2013

I know your probably wondering why I am talking about a bill that was introduced in Kentucky but the fact of the matter is that this bill affects Ohio anglers as well. For those of us that make the trip down to the Ohio River to fish for Monster Catfish, this bill govern the harvesting, taking, and selling of catfish by commercial fishermen from waters of the Commonwealth and the buying of catfish by licensed pay lakes, as deemed reasonable and prudent by the department, to ensure proper propagation and prevent depletion of the catfish population.

Alot of these fish caught by commercial fishermen for pay lakes is taken from the Ohio River. If we want to preserve theses waters for future generations we need to show support for this bill as it affects us as well. The bill reads as follows:

SECTION 1. A NEW SECTION OF KRS CHAPTER 150 IS CREATED TO READ AS FOLLOWS 1) The department shall establish requirements by administrative regulation, not less than ninety (90) days after the effective …date of this Act, to govern the harvesting, taking, and selling of catfish by commercial fishermen from waters of the Commonwealth and the buying of catfish by licensed pay lakes, as deemed reasonable and prudent by the department, to ensure proper propagation and prevent depletion of the catfish population.(2) The department may set more restrictive daily creel and catfish size limits per license holder.(3) Transporting of live catfish harvested in the Commonwealth across state lines for commercial sale shall be prohibited IN other words they will be starting to monitor and regulate the amount of trophy catfish being removed by commercial fishermen.

call 1-800-372-7181 and tell them you support HB403 or you can visit http://legiscan.com/KY/bill/HB403/2013 and leave a comment supporting this bill. Anyone from any state can do this and it only takes a few minutes. I did and I hope you will do the same.

2013 Season is Underway

Its that time of year again to get the poles out and gear up for another season of fishing.

This year we made some changes to the point system in the Club Competition
We are allowing fish caught outside of Ohio to be counted
Lowered points for several fish
Added Carp to the list
This year the competition is starting on 3/1/13 and ends on 11/1/13. Get Your scoresheet Here.
These changes were made at the request of several members to make the competition more fair.
We are still working on a tournament schedule for this year. We have picked several sites and are working out the details.
So far we have Indian Lake, Maumee River and Lima Lake. If you have any suggestions let us know.
We are also working on a special type of tournament that goes after “Trash Fish” such as carp and other undesirable type fish.
